Containment Booms
Xtreme Projects Containment Booms feature good wave conformity and stability for protected water applications. The containment booms are suitable for all scenarios including open water, large lakes, ports, oceans, ice packs and high seas.
The fabric used in the manufacturing of the Containment Booms features attributes such as:
- Resistance to salt water.
- Oils and fuels.
- High abrasion and flex abrasion resistance.
- Excellent buoyancy.
- The fully closed cell will not absorb water, even if cut open.
- Resistant to chemicals, oils and fuels.
The Xtreme Projects Containment Booms were designed by Kevin Kelly, who was motivated by observing the booming industry. He observed that when the winds were quite high, the booms would lift out of the water and whatever it was containing at that stage escaped. This motivated him to create a boom which would rather blow flat in the water as opposed to lifting up. It would also create a ripple on either side of itself, thereby forcing the oil to be contained in a certain determined area, dependent on the wind direction and the direction of the ripple created by the flutter.
