Booms for Costa Concordia

South African company Xtreme Projects helped to refloat the stricken Costa Concordia ship off the Italian coast in July 2014. The wreck of the luxury liner was refloated after two and a half years after it capsized off the Italian coast, near Giglio Island, killing 32 people.

Xtreme Projects offer ship salvage services where they assist in the recovering of a ship and its cargo after a shipwreck or other maritime casualties. When assisting is a ship salvage the main objective is to protect the coastal environment from spillage of oil or other contaminants which is a high priority for the Xtreme Projects team.

Kevin Kelly expressed how "it was an absolutely amazing experience to be involved in a project of this magnitude and I enjoyed the sense of pride by being associated with the only South African company and the only Port Elizabeth company involved in the world's biggest ever salvage operation."
